When it comes to mental health,
now more than ever, every action counts
This year, with COVID-19 affecting every aspect of our lives, Canadians are
feeling the impact of the pandemic on their mental health. Now more than
ever, mental health matters and every action counts.
Small actions from recognizing stressors, to being there for a loved one
can help support mental health and strengthen our communities during
this difficult time. Below you will find helpful information and tips
developed by the Canadian Psychological Association about how you
can help yourself, your friends, and your family cope with stress
and look after their mental health. For more information and resources related
to COVID-19 and mental health, consult their “Psychology Works” fact sheets.

HELMET STICKER BENEFIT
Helmet sticker benefit honours hockey-loving teen killed in crash
Tyler Coleiro always made time to play hockey with the kids in his Komoka neighbourhood.
“He never turned down a kid that wanted to shoot pucks with him on the driveway or play a road hockey game,” said Adam Stafford, who used to live across the street from the Coleiro family.
“He just never turned anybody away.”
The London-area hockey community is mourning Coleiro, 18, a former player with the Mt. Brydges Cougars, who was killed in a crash near Komoka last week.

Adam Stafford of Komoka shows off an 873 hockey helmet sticker honouring Tyler Coleiro, 18, who died in a car crash near Komoka last week. The helmet sticker campaign is a fundraiser for Coleiro’s family. (Mike Hensen/The London Free Press)
Stafford launched a helmet sticker fundraiser — with proceeds going to Coleiro’s family — that has already sold nearly 1,100 stickers.
The idea for the campaign started when Stafford decided to get stickers made for his son’s team. But after enlisting the help of longtime friend Mike Wanlin, the general manager at Source for Sports, the fundraiser idea was born.
“It started with the simple thought of getting 16 stickers just for my son’s teammates,” said Stafford, whose son plays for the Cougars.
Coleiro was riding in a vehicle that collided with an oncoming vehicle while trying to turn left from Gideon Drive onto Amiens Road just before 5 p.m. last Friday, Strathroy-Caradoc police said.
Two other people in the vehicle were taken to hospital — both have since been released — while the driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene, said police, who are still probing the cause of the crash.

The 873 fundraising stickers combine 87, the number of Tyler Coleiro’s favourite NHL player, Sidney Crosby, and Coleiro’s number 3 from his days with the Mt. Brydges Cougars. (Mike Hensen/The London Free Press)
“We can rule out alcohol or drugs as a factor,” Const. Mark Thuss said Thursday.
Coleiro’s family could not immediately be reached for comment.
Two London-area minor hockey associations posted messages of condolences this week.
“Over the weekend, two former Mt. Brydges Cougars were involved in a tragic car accident in which one has not survived. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the affected families,” the Cougars said in a statement.
The Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, a AAA hockey program, also paid tribute to Coleiro, who worked at their home rink in Komoka and was known to their players and coaches.
The memorial stickers bear the number 873 — the 87 for Sidney Crosby, Coleiro’s favourite NHL player, and the 3 for Coleiro’s number during his days with the Cougars.
A limited number of stickers are available for $5 at Source for Sports at 406 Wharncliffe Rd. S. Team orders can be made by emailing Stafford at adamstafford@rocketmail.com.
Stafford remembers how Coleiro would walk Stafford’s son, Jack, home from the bus stop and shovel snow off the community ice rink.
“He was an awesome kid,” Stafford said, adding there has been an outpouring of support for the Coleiro family, who now live in Kilworth.
“It just hits close to home. The Coleiros are very well known in our community.”
A visitation for Coleiro is set for Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Westview Funeral Chapel at 709 Wonderland Rd. The funeral is Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

OUR 2019 - 2020 HOME SCHEDULE

FAREWELL TO THE CORLETTS

WHAT IS "CLUB 90"
"CLUB 90" is an outcome of the OHA's Tomorrow's Game Initiative that was initially developed in 2008 to standardize and improve the operations of all Junior Hockey teams in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA). This was, and still is, a significant achievement in the operation of hockey programs within Canada.
In consultation with our member teams in each junior hockey category, both mandatory and recommended standards were established and approved by the OHA. These standards included a wide range of areas in the overall operation of hockey ream including but not limited to - on ice considerations, hockey and business operations, volunteers, and the team’s online presence.
A number of independent evaluators were summoned to conduct audits on every OHA team. The first base line audits were completed in 2012 and secondary audits were completed in the 2014-15 season.
The OHA Board of Directors implemented the "CLUB 90" program to recognize those member teams that, through these independent audits, achieved a score of over 90 percent of all mandatory requirements and 80 percent of recommended requirements, as established through the OHA Tomorrow's Game project. All OHA teams were audited in the 2016-17 season.
It remains our goal to have all OHA teams achieve this threshold, but we strongly believe that the teams who have met this criteria at this time should be recognized by their peers and be able to utilize this significant achievement to continue to further the quality standards that their hockey program has accomplished.
The OHA would like to again recognize the financial and operational support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in the development and execution of this project. Without this support, this ambitious project would not have succeeded. It provided our teams with direction and resources to succeed, as well as providing players and their families with assurances that we strive to provide the best quality junior and senior hockey programs within the OHA.
CROUSE RE-SIGNS WITH COYOTES

The Arizona Coyotes have re-signed restricted free agent Lawson Crouse to a three-year contract.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are very pleased to sign Lawson to a multi-year contract,” Coyotes general manager John Chayka said in a team statement. “He had a very good season last year and really established himself as an NHL power forward. We look forward to having him in our lineup.”
Crouse, 22, recorded career highs in goals (11), assists (14), points (25) and penalty minutes (67) in 81 games for the Coyotes last season. In 164 career NHL games, all with the Coyotes, the Mount Brydges, Ont., native has 17 goals and 38 points to go along with 122 PIMs.
Selected 11th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2015 NHL Draft, Crouse was dealt to the Coyotes in August 2016 along with the contract of Dave Bolland.
Mt. Brydges is very proud of your success!!
